Moles

 

BEHAVIOUR:

  • Insectivore. Mainly feed on earthworms, and to do this dig tunnels
  • Can eat the equivalent of their weight on a daily basis
  • Sometimes store food

DAMAGE:

  • Can dig up to 20 m of tunnels per day (average length of a tunnel: 250 m)
  • Their activities on a piece of land can extend from 500 to 3 000 m² depending on how rich it is in food (from 5 to 10 moles per hectare)
  • Molehills
  • Damage crops by unearthing seeds

No ears can be seen, but they have ear pinnae.
Paws with powerful claws.

1 litter per year, 3 to 5 young per litter..
(adult after 7 weeks)
